Businesses following trade between Malaysia and Europe have a policy development to monitor: negotiations for an EU–Malaysia free trade agreement. Buyers can prepare commercial information while continuing to price transactions using the rules that apply to the actual shipment.

What the official update says

The European Commission states that negotiations resumed in January 2025, with the first round held in late June 2025. Its stated objectives include market access for goods and services, digital trade, sanitary and phytosanitary procedures, intellectual property and sustainable development. The Commission’s agreement page describes negotiations, rather than an agreement already operating.

A negotiation is not a shipment entitlement

Do not build a purchase budget around a possible future tariff reduction. For an order under consideration, ask the importing business and its customs adviser to confirm the treatment that applies to the product, origin and date of import. Any later policy change should be assessed against its published implementation conditions.

Information worth preparing now

  • A consistent product description, composition and intended application.
  • The proposed manufacturing location and available origin evidence.
  • The importer’s technical, testing, packaging and labelling requirements.
  • A quotation showing the currency, delivery point, validity and exclusions.
  • A record of the supplier documents reviewed and the questions still open.

Keep commercial and policy work connected

Maintain a short assumptions sheet alongside the quotation comparison. Note which costs are confirmed, which are estimates and which need specialist review. This makes it easier to update a project if a supplier, route or applicable rule changes.

CAPAZ Holding works with international enquiries involving Malaysian suppliers and commercial coordination. An initial discussion can establish whether the requirement concerns supplier research, samples, purchasing support or liaison with appointed service providers.
