Trade update · Reviewed 10 October 2026

Malaysia’s August 2026 trade release provides a useful snapshot for businesses assessing the country as a sourcing and supply destination. National totals describe the market; an individual purchasing decision still requires a product specification, a supplier assessment and a workable delivery plan.
The reported figures
MATRADE reported total trade of RM354.01 billion in August 2026, up 43.4% year on year. Exports reached RM191.05 billion, an increase of 45.5%, while imports were RM162.96 billion, up 41.1%. These figures concern the reported month and should not be read as a forecast for subsequent orders or sectors.
What buyers can take from the update
For a procurement team, a trade release is a starting point for investigation. Growth at national level does not establish that a particular grade, model or production slot is available. It also does not identify the landed cost of a shipment to your destination.
A practical next step is to narrow the question from “what does Malaysia export?” to “which manufacturers can supply our precise requirement, in the quantity and packaging we need?”
Turn market interest into a sourcing brief
- Define the product, application and essential technical characteristics.
- Separate an initial trial order from your possible recurring volume.
- Specify the destination country, delivery point and intended use.
- List documentation, testing or labelling requirements that your team has already identified.
- Request quotation validity, production timing and a clear delivery basis.
Keep the comparison current
Record when each quotation was issued and which assumptions it uses. Availability, freight charges and commercial conditions may change between an initial discussion and a confirmed purchase. Compare equivalent specifications and delivery scopes before drawing conclusions from headline prices.
CAPAZ Holding can review a sourcing enquiry and discuss supplier research, quotation coordination or support with the proposed transaction. The role and scope are agreed for each engagement.
